Welcome to Kauai’s East Side
A dream location
Regularly referred to as the “Royal Coconut Coast” for the many palm trees that dot the land, the East Side is one of the most diverse communities on the island thanks to its many residents. This breezy locale houses nearly a quarter of the island's total population, and many tourists and visitors come in and out of the Lihue Airport.
Islanders love living on Kauai’s East Side for its convenience and easy access to world-class beaches, fantastic restaurants, and breathtaking hiking trails. You’ll find many homes built in a variety of styles, from charming bungalows to luxury estates — and most have views of the ocean and beach access. If you’re a jet-setter and adventurer, this is the place for you.

Local Lifestyle
East Side Kauai is the ideal location for those who seek adventure — it’s close to the only airport on the island, some of the best beaches in the world, and hiking trails with terrific views. It’s for those who are always in motion, prefer to dine out with friends, and love spending the day in the waves. However, it still offers a laid-back vibe where you can escape into the haven of your home and relax after a long day of activity.
Dining, Shopping, and Entertainment
The East Side happens to have the densest concentration of restaurants and shops on the island. Seaweed and Sage is a black-owned, women-led boutique that oozes elegance. This modern storefront is full of the latest fashion trends and accessories and is stocked with some delightful home goods that you can wrap up for gifting or buy for yourself. The funky Kiko Kauai is a must-visit shop that’s been an island favorite since its inception. It’s the ideal spot for islanders who want to boost their design aesthetic.
Kick off your dining experience at the oldest restaurant on Kauai: Tip Top Motel, Cafe & Bakery. Their dishes rival your grandma’s home-cooked meals to keep you coming back for seconds. J02 Restaurant uses locally sourced ingredients to create fantastic Hawaiian fare in a vibrant, modern setting. Want to grab a drink after a long day of work or enjoy a night out with friends? Kauai Beer Company is happy to welcome you with house brews, craft ciders, and an extensive wine list. For fresh seafood, Hukilau Lanai and The Fish Express are both great options — the former is more of a sit-down restaurant, while the latter is excellent for those on the go. Things to Do
Kealia Beach is the ultimate spot to roll out your towel, lay on the sand, and watch the waves crash in. It has incredible sandy shores and turquoise waters that are to die for, and there’s a walking and biking path that spans the entire beach if you want to get a workout in or take a leisurely stroll. If you or your kids are skaters, you’ll find Kapaa Skate Park nearby, so take the opportunity to test out your new gear and practice some tricks! The Wailua River State Park contains the famed Wailua Falls double waterfall, the Wailua River, and Fern Grotto.
At the beginning of every October, the Coconut Festival takes over Kapaa town with all things coconut, including coconut crafts, coconut cuisine, and coconut games. There’s also all-day music, hula, taiko drummers, and cooking demonstrations by the island’s best chefs! For more fun, make sure to check out Kipu Ranch, where you and your friends can go on an off-road ATV tour and scout out some of the best locations on the island.
