Kauai’s West Side

A sunny, desert-like community for those seeking a more peaceful lifestyle

Welcome to Kauai’s West Side

A sunny, desert-like community for those seeking a more peaceful lifestyle

Kauai’s West Side is unlike any other corner on the island, with its endless white beaches, desert-like canyons, and year-round sunsets. Here you’ll find miles of pristine coastline, where you’ll become fully immersed in the land's beauty without the distraction of commercial or residential properties.

Since the beaches are purely sand and turquoise waters, you’ll find most of Kauai's West Side homes further inland. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to take in waterfront vistas.

What to Love

  • Peaceful atmosphere with rolling beaches and deep valleys
  • Small towns provide a local feel
  • Miles of uninhabited shorelines
  • Year-round sunsets

Local Lifestyle

It’s a great place for retirees to settle down due to its beautiful sunsets and calm atmosphere. Young couples who enjoy the quiet of nature will also love this sunny spot — you’ll find numerous hikes that end with marvelous views of the West Side’s canyons and valleys.

Things to Do

Kauai’s West Side is home to several state parks for hiking, including Polihale State Park. You'll have to do some off-roading to get to this picturesque location, where the beach is always uncrowded and the cliffs are always breathtaking. It’s a terrific spot to watch the dolphins, stargaze and live in the moment. At the exceptional Kokee State Park, you’ll hike to the top of the lush mountain, camp under the stars, and get sweeping views of nearly the entire island.

Hanapepe Art Night is a popular West Side event where you’ll get to wander through several galleries and meet some fantastic local talent. On Friday nights, you’ll have the opportunity to join in on the local buzz, whether that means strolling down the streets with family and friends, supporting artists and vendors, or eating at one of the area’s many restaurants. Join thousands of other residents every February at the Waimea Town Celebration, one of the island’s longest-running festivals, where you’ll celebrate Kauai’s unique history and culture. You’ll enjoy several cultural exhibits, local food, live music, and hula, all in great company.
